What’s so special about the Blue Mountains Music Festival of Folk, Roots and Blues?
This fun and folksy event takes place in Katoomba, against the stunning backdrop of the Three Sisters. There are 8 stages, ranging from the intimate Clarendon Cabaret Room to the Big Top, and over 100 performances to enjoy. There’s a little bit of an alternative vibe, lending the festival it’s unique charm. It’s a relaxed affair with no reserved seating – just rock up and sit somewhere, or stand! Music lovers will be treated to an array of incredible acts, and will be spoiled for choice. The Blue Mountains Music Festival of Folk, Roots and Blues is a bit of an institution, having been a feature in Katoomba for the past twenty-five years. It’s a much-loved event and the atmosphere is consistently fantastic.
What type of music is it?
As the name suggests, Folk, Roots and Blues are the main styles and you’ll enjoy world-class artists from across Australia and the globe, as you get lost in earthy acoustics and soulful vocals.

Is the Blue Mountains Music Festival about more than just music?
The event has much more to offer than just the performing artists. You can also enjoy food and drink at a variety of on-site venues, including the aptly named Barlands Bar, the Kitchen Garden Bar, the Blue’s Room RSL Club and Boho Bar. You can also peruse the merch and memorabilia stands for tees and CDs, and there is an activity area for kids too!
Where can you eat and drink nearby?
As well as the great selection inside the tents, the festival is also right in the heart of Katoomba, close to some lively bars and a range of our favourite restaurants, including Canton Palace, Pins on Lurline and The Carrington. You’ll be spoiled for choice!
When is it?
The Blue Mountains Music Festival is on the 15th, 16th and 17th of March 2024. We recommend booking accommodation well in advance, as Katoomba can get pretty full when big events come to town.

Where’s the best place to stay?
Katoomba of course! Then you’ll be right in the thick of the action, and you’ll easily be able to walk home or grab a taxi back each night. While you're there you can also take in the breathtaking sights and some of the most beautiful walks New South Wales has to offer.
How do I get there?
You can drive from Sydney to Katoomba within around 1.5 to 2 hours or take a train from Sydney Central Station. Trains leave roughly every hour and take you straight to Katoomba Train station, although it’s worth checking with Transport NSW before you leave.

How do I get to the festival from Careel Cottages?
It’s a breezy 2-minute drive or 15-minute walk from Careel Cottages to the Blue Mountains Music Festival Precinct, to make things really easy. At the end of an amazing day of music you can come straight back and unwind.
